On April 13th PASSION partners and ONF group members discussed the PASSION-ONF liason, providing an overview of the project and evaluating possible standard extensions related with PASSION technologies.
The H2020 research project PASSION adopts a disruptive approach to develop innovative photonic devices as well an optical fibre network infrastructure for the future metropolitan area network (MAN) supporting different aggregated data traffic volumes and operating at heterogenous granularities. The webinar will show the design, the realisation and the performance of an innovative vertical cavity surface emitting laser (VCSEL) -based modular sliceable bandwidth/bitrate variable transceiver (S-BVT) in realistic MANs organised by hierarchical levels with the crossing of multiple nodes characterised by new switching/aggregation technologies. The capabilities and challenges of the proposed cost-effective, energy-efficient and reduced footprint technological solutions will be presented to face the request of huge throughput and traffic scalability both at the system and network level. Speakers
PIERPAOLO BOFFI – POLIMI PASSION objectives and VCSEL-based SiPh TX module MICHELA SVALUTO MOREOLO – CTTC Programmable multi-Tb/s S-BVT for metro networks NICOLA CALABRETTA – TUE PASSION network node
JUAN PEDRO FERNANDEZ-PALACIOS – TID Metro network exploiting PASSION technologies
Garching – Munich 14-15 November 2019 the PASSION partners joined together at Vertilas GmbH to have a two-day meeting on the project progresses and results. We are approaching the end of the second year of the project and as usual it was a pleasure to meet in person having interesting discussions.
EPIC Meeting on VCSELs Technology and Applications at Sony will bring together some of the companies driving the volume application of VCSELs in smart phones, laptops, drones, robots, and cars enabling new functionalities such as proximity sensing; high resolution and 3D video; remote powering of sensors; LIDAR, (illumination, night vision, aerospace, and line-of-sight communication links); cheap scale atomic clocks; indoor positioning systems; and many more. PASSION will be sponsoring this meeting.

PASSION is sponsoring ECOC2019 EPIC VIP Party which is a traditional event dedicated to stimulate networking among the EPIC members and invited guests, attending ECOC. With participation of more than 150 people, the evening aims at bringing together companies to discuss, network and collaborate for the future, with a promise of delicious food and drinks. PASSION will be one of the key sponsor of this networking evening.
EPIC Meeting on Wafer Level Optics at SUSS MicroOptics will discuss the benefits and motivation of migrating towards wafer level manufacturing of optical diffractive, refractive or reflective components. The main goal of the meeting is to discuss applications in CMOS image sensors, automotive lighting, AR/VR headsets, medical, datacom, consumer electronics etc. between technology providers, system integrators and users. Some manufacturing processes will also be discussed including large area master fabrication using a step and repeat UV-NIL (ultra-violet nanoimprint lithography) systems, the working stamp material and its fabrication. PASSION will be sponsoring this meeting.
World Photonics Technology Summit 2019 will bring experts and leaders from industrial companies around the world to discuss photonics technology developments and challenges. This event is by invitation only at CTO/CEO level, 1 representative per company, with an audience of around 250 participants from 30 countries. PASSION will be one of the sponsors for this meeting.
Dates: 29-30 August 2019 Venue: Grand Hyatt, Berlin, Germany.
